What is a Recycling Credit?
A Recycling Credit is the value of the saving made by the Council in NOT having to landfill any household waste that is recycled. The County Council chooses to pay this saving in disposal costs back to any voluntary or community groups that are involved in collecting household waste for recycling, because we wish to promote recycling in Cheshire. The value of the credit varies across the different Districts due to differences in disposal costs, and is paid for each tonne of household waste that is recycled. The current values of the recycling credit payable are shown below. The value of the credit increases each year.
Who can claim?
Any voluntary or community group who collects household waste in Cheshire and passes it onto a recycling company or merchant for recycling.
What can I claim credits for?
Recycling Credits are only payable for household waste that is recycled. Commercial or industrial waste is not included in the scheme. However, any material which is removed from the household waste stream can be claimed for (for example, paper, cardboard, glass, cans) provided that it is ultimately recycled.
What is the value of the credit?
Recycling Credits are payable for each tonne of household waste that is recycled. The values of the credits for the 2008/09 financial year are:
