Government 

  • Department for Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) has useful background information on waste, including an A - Z of different waste materials
  • Environment Agency are the leading public body responsible for protecting and improving the environment in England and Wales. The regulate waste management through a system of licences

Recycling/Re-use/Waste Minimisation 

  • Aluminium Packaging Recycling Organisation (Alupro) is responsible for encouraging and developing recycling collection initiatives, for consumer education, and for representing the aluminium packaging industry to government in the UK
  • Cartridge Recycling recycle printer cartridges and mobile phones to raise funds for charity
  • Community Recycling Network is an organisation promoting community-based sustainable waste management
  • Congleton Freecycle is a new freecycle group set up for the borough of Congleton. Freecycle is a national non-profit organisation dedicated to keeping things out of landfill, by offering unwanted items to other members – this is done by using Yahoo! Groups – the only restriction is that no money must change hands
  • Ecotopia is an online green shop offering a wide range of interesting and innovative environmental products
  • Glass Forever is an excellent site all about glass and how it can be recycled. Lots of games and an animation showing how old glass is made into new bottles
  • Glass Works is the fun place to learn about glass recycling
  • Greenglass.co.uk has loads of great products made from recycled glass
  • Help the Aged has a recycling programme allowing you to put your discarded stamps, foreign currency, toner cartridges and mobile phones to good use and raise funds for vulnerable older people at the same time
  • Lets Recycle has lots of news and information for the recycling and waste management community
  • North West Community Waste Network offers networking opportunities, support, consultancy and training to community waste organisations in the North West funded by DEFRA.  The aim is to facilitate existing community waste networks in the region to work together to develop and support the sector. Contact Teresa Scholtz, Ian Scott or Katherine Hallewell on 0161 273 6976 or teresa@crn.org.uk.
  • Ollie Recycles is a child-friendly website, full of games, quizzes, puzzles and information. Ollie and his friends show you around and teach you more about the 3Rs: reduce, reuse and recycle
  • Paper Industries Website has lots of useful information on paper and paper recycling
  • Rag-and-Bone.co.uk provides a way of giving a new home to unwanted but still useable larger household items.  All items advertised on the site are free to a good home!
  • Recoup provides information on plastic recycling
  • Recycle More is a one-stop recycling information centre, offering help and advice on all aspects of recycling at home, at school and in the workplace
  • Recycled Products Guide is an on-line guide to buying recycled products in the UK
  • Recycling Consortium (TRC) contains some great games that will help you to learn about reducing, reusing and recycling waste
  • Recycling Guide is a new, user friendly guide to recycling and reuse with wonderful illustrations.  The Guide provides advice on how people can recycle at home, in schools and how to recycle different materials. The guide also has a useful tips section.
  • RecyclingSupermarket.com provides practical advice and information on all aspects of waste management and recycling aimed at both the business sector and members of the public 
  • Stop Junkmail is a new and informative website advising people how they can achieve a 'junk mail free' life
  • Waste Watch is the national charity promoting action on waste reduction, reuse and recycling
  • Recycling Expert provides many informative articles on recycling
