Reusable Nappies are Easy to Use
4% of all household rubbish in the UK is disposable nappies.
- Modern reusable nappies are very similar to disposables and as convenient to use:
- There is no need to use pins, as they have 'velcro', poppers or ties to keep them in place.
- They keep babies leak free with the help of waterproof nappy covers which are breathable and comfortable.
- Biodegradable liners are simply flushed down the toilet (waste goes into the sewerage system where it can be properly disposed of rather than landfilled).
- Washable nappy liners are also available.
- The nappies are then washed in your machine at 60°C; waterproof wraps can be washed at 40°C
- Different sizes, styles and patterns are available.
- Booster pads are available for extra absorbency at night.
- They are soft and gentle on babies skin.
- They are made of 100% cotton fibre and contain no perfume.
- They do not contain absorbent gels or chemicals.
Disposing of nappies costs the taxpayer £40 million per year. |

Real Nappy Benefits
- Washing nappies at home is the cheapest option, even taking into account the cost of washing powder, energy, drying costs and depreciation of the washing machine.
- Washing reusable nappies helps reduce waste to landfill.
- Parents can save hundreds of pounds by using cotton, rather than disposable nappies for their first child, the savings for subsequent children are even higher.
- Nappy laundries and nappy agents offer a locally-based service generating local employment.
More than 36 million nappies end up in landfill sites in Cheshire every year.
Nappy laundering Services
- Laundry services supply, deliver, collect and launder - no pins, plastic pants, sluicing or rinsing.
- Just use the nappy and place it in the bin they supply and collect each week.
- The nappies are washed to thermal disinfection standards (97°C) used by hospital laundries.
- After the nappies' useful life, they are sold as rags to be used by all sorts of industries.
Babies get through about 5,000 nappies in their first two-two and a half years. |
