Our Purpose
The Council community development work aims to promote and develop community activity and involvement, encouraging and developing the energy of local people to make a real difference in their neighbourhoods. The Council Community Development work operates within the National Occupational Standards for Community Development work.

What We Do |
- We encourage and support individuals to participate in community activities as volunteers, community leaders or members. See Case Study: Supporting Individuals to Participate.
- We support the development of community activities including environmental projects, social enterprises, community buildings, out-of-school schemes, work with older people. See Case Study: Developing Community Activities.
- We develop informal networks and formal partnerships such as Neighbourhood and Area Forums. See Case Study: Developing Networks and Partnerships.
- We provide community development support to other professionals, agencies and initiatives. See Case Study: Support to Professionals, Agencies and Initiatives.
- We conduct community-based research in order to identify gaps in provision, availability of volunteers, local priorities, etc.
